Located in the heart of Colbert’s Arsenal, the Corderie Royale was built in 1666 by order of Louis XIV. For two centuries, it produced the ropes used on the great sailing ships of the Royal Navy.
Your visit begins with an immersive show that plunges you into the rich history of the Corderie Royale.
Through workshops and interactive experiences, (re)discover the building’s original purpose: the transformation of raw material through its various stages — spinning, forming, and rope-making.
Tactile activities, image projections, educational game stations, interactive displays, optical theatre… A series of hands-on experiences awaits, helping you understand the story and craft of this historic ropewalk.
Also on site: temporary exhibitions, a bookshop specialising in maritime themes, and the historic “Magasin des cordages” (Rope Store).
