A journey through Rochefort’s maritime and cultural history
Founded in the 19th century, the Hèbre Museum reflects the rich maritime and cultural heritage of Rochefort. Its diverse collections include paintings, ethnographic objects and artefacts brought back from around the world by local explorers.
These collections illustrate the spirit of adventure that defined the city during the golden age of its naval arsenal, particularly through expeditions to Oceania and Asia led by notable figures from Rochefort.
On the ground floor, the Heritage Interpretation Centre (CIAP) offers an interactive way to understand the city’s development. The impressive 1835 scale model provides insight into Rochefort’s evolution since its creation in 1666 under the reign of Louis XIV.
Combining art, history and interactive discovery, the Hèbre Museum offers a rich and accessible cultural experience for all.
